Nifty Fox worked with the University of Nottingham and UK Sports Institute team to create a brand, website and in-person exhibition that took into account multiple stakeholder audiences. Each product had to balance the accuracy and gravity of research findings, with the need for sports practitioners and policy makers to have concrete actions to make change.
Exploring How We Guard Our Data
New research from Warwick and Edinburgh explored whether a data trust - or a group of impartial people responsible for safeguarding our data interests - would be a good new model for working with research participant data. The team were struggling to articulate this complex concept in a way that made sense to lay audiences - this is where Nifty came in.
Improving Patient Public Involvement Within Funded Research
Improving the Measurement of Mobility in People with Long-Term Conditions
The research team had just finished a seminal piece of research reframing the definition of ‘walking’. Walking is not just a physical thing - it is also a social, emotional and economic experience. This definition has the potential to revolutionise the way clinicians measure mobility in patients with long term conditions.
Exploring South Asian Women's Body Image

Easier to be Active Report
The Hero
Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre Sheffield, Sport England and Sheffield Hallam University
The Problem
Easier to be active is a research project conducted throughout COVID to investigate how physical activity and health providers could make it easier to be active with a long term health condition.
The research team needed an accessible, engaging way to share the full research report, recommendations and real stories of people with long-term health conditions with a policy and lay audience to drive impact.
The Solution
Nifty Fox to the rescue! We created an illustrated research report, executive summary, policy brief and animation to break down the research findings into understandable chunks, and capture the attention of policy makers quickly, and raise awareness of the research project more widely.
The Outcome
The outputs are now being used by Sport England and the AWRC to engage with policy makers locally and nationally.
Well, I for one, LOVE IT! I think it's great, really clear and captures the essence of the project perfectly....amazing! - Dr Anna Lowe - AWRC

Flippin’ Pain - Connect Health
The Problem
The Flippin’ Pain team needed a way to present their campaign journey so far to change the way we talk about, think about and treat persistent pain. They needed to reflect the data, but also the human impact of their work in an accessible, engaging and bitesized way.
The Solution
Nifty Fox worked collaboratively with the FP team to create an animation - voiced by a person with lived experience - and an interactive visual summary report to celebrate the achievements and demonstrate the social, economic, and psychological impact of the interventions so far.
The Result
The report and animation are now being used with shareholders, funders and future campaign partners to increase support for campaign activity.
Lab 4 Living - Patient Journeys for People with UTIs
The Hero
Lab 4 Living is a research group of practitioners in design, healthcare and creative practices. They address real world issues that impact health and wellbeing, developing products, services and interventions that promote dignity and enhance quality of life. Right up our street!
The Challenge
The L4L team wanted an engaging way to present stories of people with Urinary Tract Infections, and how patient and public involvement has shaped the development of a new testing device to cut diagnosis times significantly.
The Solution
Nifty Fox developed two hand-drawn animations to demonstrate the lived experience of UTIs and the impact of the new testing device on the patient’s journey. The L4L team has shared the animations with research stakeholders and participants, re-engaging them in the project after the challenges of COVID. Win!
The Outcome
Patient Data: Information for Life
The Hero
The University of Sheffield
The Challenge
The Information for Life team at the University of Sheffield did a deep dive into the pros and cons of data sharing within the NHS. They needed to summarise their research in a way that was engaging and accessible to share with patient audiences.
The Solution
Nifty Fox created an animation, infographics, and GIFs designed to be used at a patient public involvement event. The products were designed to really bring the research to life, to help real patients understand what happens to their data, and support them as they make informed decisions.
