Visual Summaries
Explore the detail and keep audiences reading
Sometimes, one pagers aren’t enough. Audiences like policy makers, funders and those in positions to drive change need the detail to make informed decisions.
But spoiler alert - very few people will read every page of a lengthy report. Or even pick it up in the first place.
Visual summaries are a great solution to giving readers the right amount of detail they need but in a visually engaging way. Usually 4-10 pages, they present findings and key takeaways succinctly and visually.
Audiences need more detail than an infographic to understand or make decisions based on your work.
You know that people won’t read the full report and need something accessible, attention grabbing and easy to read.
You have rich qualitative data (and human stories) that would help change hearts and minds.
You have an actionable toolkit that your audience could use to improve practice.
Depending on the level of complexity of your project, visual summary reports range from 4-20 pages. They can take the form of:
Summarises key ideas visually in 4 pages or less.
A more formal, recommendation focused piece to drive policy change in 4-6 pages.
Ideal for lay audiences as info-comics break down complexity using characters and a visual narrative. Usually range from 6-20 pages.
Great for practitioner audiences who need a step by step guide to implement your ideas. Usually range from 10-20 pages.
I am delighted with the finished product. You have turned our garbled thoughts into a sleek, professional document with just the amount of white space/diagrams to make it easy to engage with the text. It has just the look and feel that we were hoping for.
