Challenge

Many of us think we know Gypsy and Travellers. We might think of them as always on the move, ‘tough and hard’, and maybe even involved with crime. But let’s look a bit harder…

…this is what Coretta and Zoe were doing with their research into Gypsy and Traveller experiences of the criminal justice system. They approached Nifty with the challenge of turning their findings into an accessible, plain English visual summary report and a 60 second trailer, that appealed to the community, policy makers and other academics alike.

Illustrated statistics for Unchecked realities work

Solution

We worked closely with Coretta and Zoe to distill their work into a readable, info-comic summary, paying careful attention to representation and avoiding stereotypes. With lots of statistics in the mix, we played with visual metaphors and representations of data to make it understandable and engaging.

We also experimented with AI voiceover for the first time in the 60 second research trailer - a cost effective and impactful way of narrating research stories.

Result

The visual summary and 60 second trailer are now being used to disseminate the findings of the Realities Checked research project world wide.
